Commercial and pay-television broadcaster Modern Times Group has acquired rights in Sweden for England’s home international football matches and the FA Cup, League Cup and Championship English club football competitions.
According to the Aftonbladet news website, the deal covering England matches and the FA Cup knockout competition will start immediately and run for five-and-a-half years until the end of the 2017-18 season.
The deal for the League Cup knockout tournament and the Championship, the second division of football in England, will start immediately and run for four-and-a-half years until the end of the 2016-17 season.
Both deals were struck with the Pitch International agency, which sells international rights to England home games and the FA Cup on behalf of the Football Association, the sport’s governing body in the country, and rights to the Championship and League Cup on behalf of the Football League, which operates both competitions.
MTG’s basic-tier channel TV10 will be the main channel for the coverage.
MTG already has rights to the English Premier League and Uefa Champions League club tournaments.
