Movistar TV, the IPTV platform of Spanish telecommunications company Telefónica, has launched a new channel to exploit its rights to European qualifiers for the Uefa Euro 2016 and 2018 Fifa World Cup football tournaments.
Movistar Fútbol will broadcast two live games per day during the European qualifiers at 6pm and 8:45pm local time. The channel will begin with the Euro 2016 qualifying games between Hungary and Northern Ireland, followed by Germany versus Scotland, on September 7.
Movistar TV acquired the Spanish broadcast rights, excluding the country’s national team, to the European qualifiers in April. The broadcaster said Movistar Fútbol will offer highlights of Spain’s games, along with repeat transmissions of the national team’s qualifiers.
Spanish public-service broadcaster TVE struck a rights deal for all Spain national team qualifiers for Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup in May.
