Modern Times Group, the multi-territory commercial and pay-television broadcaster, has extended its rights to the Uefa Champions League club football competition in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
The new three-season deal covers Champions League rights from 2018-19 to 2020-21. MTG has secured the rights on an exclusive basis in Denmark and Sweden, along with 108 matches per season on an exclusive basis in Norway.
MTG has partnered with the Champions League since its launch in 1992. The media-rights package for the tournament will be enlarged from 2018-19 onward to include 35-per-cent more media coverage – 46 time slots around 138 matches over 17 weeks.
MTG’s football coverage in Scandinavia also includes the English Premier League, FA Cup, Spain’s LaLiga, Italy’s Serie A, France’s Ligue 1, Denmark’s Superliga, and the English League Cup and Championship.
Jørgen Madsen Lindemann, MTG president and chief executive, said: “This is great news for football fans as virtually all leading international club football games can now be found through a single TV subscription for years to come.”
In other news, Uefa is set to launch tenders in Slovenia for rights to the Champions League, Europa League and Super Cup.
The tenders will launch on May 18 and cover the 2018-19 to 2020-21 seasons of the Champions League and Europa League, as well as the 2018, 2019 and 2020 Super Cup games. The deadline for bids has been set at June 21.
The sales process will be administered on behalf of Uefa, European football’s governing body, by the Team Marketing agency, Uefa’s adviser for its club competitions.
