MTG extends Kontinental Hockey League rights deal

Multi-territory commercial and pay-television broadcaster Modern Times Group has renewed a rights deal in the Nordic region for the Kontinental Hockey League ice hockey club competition.

The exclusive deal covers KHL rights in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden for the next four seasons, until 2021.

From the 2017-18 season onward, matches featuring Finnish side Jokerit, along with selected high-profile KHL fixtures, will be available via MTG’s Viasat Hockey channel in Finland, Norway and Sweden. 

Coverage will also be available through the Viaplay streaming service in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

MTG agreed the deal with the Lagardère Sports and Entertainment agency.

The KHL is contested by 27 teams from Russia, Belarus, China, Finland, Kazakhstan, Latvia and Slovakia.

The 2017-18 KHL season gets underway on August 21. Russian side SKA Saint Petersburg is the defending champion.
