NC Plus attempts to rectify LaLiga rights loss

Polish pay-television operator NC Plus has said it is working on securing rights to LaLiga after it emerged that pay-television broadcaster BeIN Media Group has signed a deal for the top division of Spanish football, despite not holding a presence in the Polish market.

NC Plus had previously held the rights to LaLiga in Poland, but multiple media reports in the country have said beIN is the new rights-holder.

Terms of the deal were undisclosed, but the Mediapro agency, which markets LaLiga’s overseas rights, is agreeing three-season deals in Europe for competition reasons, and deals for up to five seasons elsewhere.

The development represents the latest rights loss for NC Plus, but with the new LaLiga season commencing at the weekend, and currently without coverage in Poland, the company said it is attempting to strike an agreement.

In a statement reported by the SE.pl website, NC Plus said: “We found out that the rights to the Spanish league (LaLiga) have been acquired by a sports rights agency, which as far as we know, has no plans to launch its own channel in Poland.

“We continue to work on allowing the viewing of this competition directly or indirectly, with no guarantee at this moment whether we will succeed.”
