The Nimbus Communications agency said it had complied with the terms of its broadcast rights deal with the Board of Control for Cricket in India and was focused on resolving its differences with the national body, after the BCCI executive committee voted to cancel the contract on Monday.
The BCCI reportedly accused Nimbus of repeated late payments of rights fee instalments and voted to curtail the deal with Rs880m (€12.6m/$16.4m) owed by Nimbus. The agreement from 2010 to 2014 covered the worldwide rights for all India national team Test, one-day international and Twenty20 matches held in the country as well as some domestic tournaments.
Nimbus said it had “acted in compliance of its contractual obligations and variations agreed between the parties from time to time.” Nimbus added that it is “working towards achieving full resolution of any differences” with the BCCI and “is hopeful of a reasoned conclusion in the coming weeks.”
According to ESPNcricinfo, Nimbus had asked for an extension on its payment deadline and the Times of India said Nimbus had made a payment of Rs240m to the BCCI hours before Monday’s meeting, although this still left Rs800m in unpaid fees.
