Norwegian public-service broadcaster NRK has acquired rights for International Biathlon Union (IBU) events in a four-year deal, from 2014-15 to 2017-18, according to the Kampanje news website.
NRK struck the deal with the European Broadcasting Union, the consortium of free-to-air broadcasters, which negotiated the rights deal on behalf of the IBU global governing body.
Basic-tier and pay-television broadcaster TV2, another member of the EBU, also tabled a bid for the rights, the report said.
“Of course I am very pleased that we will be able to continue to offer our audience one of the most popular winter sports,” NRK director of broadcasting Thor Gjermund Eriksen said.
