Orange Sport to show French Open before closing

French pay-television channel Orange Sport will broadcast the 2012 French Open tennis tournament, from May 27 to June 10, before shutting down, according to Le Parisien.

Orange Sport has a rights deal for the competition with the Fédération Française de Tennis running up to and including the 2013 tournament. The deal is worth €2.5 million ($3.3 million) per year, according to French newspaper La Tribune.

The channel had previously been expected to close on May 20 when it broadcasts its last French Ligue 1 football game of its current rights contract.

The channel’s parent company, telecommunications group Orange, announced earlier this month that Orange Sport would close after it failed to find a buyer for it.
