Chinese online television service provider PPTV has snatched rights for LaLiga, the new brand name for the Spanish Football League.
The deal, which also covers Chinese Taipei and Macau, will run for five seasons, from 2015-16 to 2019-20. The agreement was secured with PPTV's owner, media company Suning.
Earlier today (Wednesday), Spanish newspaper AS said Chinese state broadcaster CCTV was set to acquire the exclusive rights in China for the same five-season period for a total of €375m ($413m) over the course of the deal, or €75m per season.
The PPTV agreement is reportedly worth a total of €250m over the five seasons, according to the Yutang Sports news service.
The rights include live coverage of games from the top-tier Primera and the second-tier Segunda División.
