Italy’s RCS MediaGroup, the organiser and commercial rights-holder of the Giro d’Italia cycling race, has suspended three managers at its sports division in connection with an internal investigation into suspect transactions, according to the Reuters news agency.
The report said that the three officials are RCS Sport’s former chief executive Giacomo Catano, operations manager Michele Acquarone and external relations director Matteo Pastore.
“Some managers have been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure,” RCS MediaGroup chief financial officer Riccardo Taranto said.
RCS last week hired a company to conduct an audit into “the nature of certain banking transactions carried out with associations connected to RCS Sport but not consolidated in the group.”
On Friday, the board of RCS Sport said that its chairman, Flavio Biondi, had resigned. Raimondo Zanaboni has been appointed to succeed Biondi. Zanaboni, a member of the RCS Sport board of directors, had led the RCS Group’s advertising department since 2008.
