NBC holds three of the top-five Super Bowl audiences, with 94.1 million viewers in 1996 (3rd) and 91 million in 1993 (5th). Rival network CBS drew the 4th biggest audience in 2007, with 93.2 million viewers. The 2009 Super Bowl was the second most-watched television programme across all genres in the US, behind the final episode of Vietnam War sitcom M*A*S*H, which drew 106 million viewers in 1983.
In Canada, the 2009 Super Bowl drew 3.6 million viewers on the CTV network, down 14 per cent over last year’s 4.2 million, and just short of the highest sports audience of the year so far, the gold-medal match of the IIHF World Junior Ice Hockey championship, which drew 3.68 million on cable channel TSN.
