RFU to live stream new women’s league

England’s Rugby Football Union has said it will provide live streaming of games from new women’s league the Premier 15s.

The initiative will commence with this weekend’s game between Loughborough Lightning and Harlequins Ladies.

The game, which takes place tomorrow (Saturday) at the Loughborough Students RFC club ground, will be viewable on the England Rugby page on social media platform Facebook, and on the Premier 15s website.

The inaugural season of the new Premier 15s competition got underway on September 16. Harlequins has won both of its games so far this season, with Loughborough having picked up a win and a draw.

Nigel Melville, the RFU’s director of professional rugby, said: “Our main objective for this competition is to raise the standard of the game and to provide players and clubs with the support they need to get better.

“This is as much about what happens off the pitch as what happens on it, which is why it’s fantastic that we’re able to live stream the first of many games this season this weekend. This will enable us to make games more accessible to fans as well as opening up the tournament to new audiences who can see for themselves the high level of competition and rugby that is played in this league.”
