Coverage of the 2012 Ryder Cup golf tournament generated record figures for UK pay-television broadcaster BSkyB’s internet and mobile service Sky Go.
A record-breaking total of about 700,000 viewers followed the live action through the service, which is available to Sky’s 10.3 million pay-television customers for no extra fee. Two-thirds of the Sky Go customers were using a mobile or tablet to watch the content.
Sky said that the figures reached a peak of 200,000 users on the evening of Sunday, September 30, when Europe completed its unlikely comeback to beat the US on the final day of the competition.
Interactive coverage of the event through the red button service on the Sky+ HD set-top box was accessed by 174,000 Sky customers.
“These record-breaking figures for Sky Go demonstrate how Sky customers are increasingly embracing new technologies to make sure they don’t miss a moment of the action,” Luke Bradley-Jones, brand director of TV products at Sky, said.
