Sky becomes first rights partner for Star Sixes

UK pay-television broadcaster Sky has acquired exclusive rights in the country to Star Sixes, a new competition designed to showcase football legends.

The inaugural edition of the event will take place at the O2 in London from July 13-16. Every match will be shown live on Sky Sports.

The tournament, which is being run in partnership with the Pitch International agency and sports management agency Football Champions Tour, will comprise three groups of four teams.

Star Sixes will be contested by former international players from England, Spain, Mexico, Scotland, Brazil, Italy, Nigeria, China, Germany, France, Portugal and Denmark.

Ex-England captain Steven Gerrard will feature, as well as Fifa World Cup winners Carles Puyol of Spain and Robert Pires of France.
