Italian pay-television platform Sky Italia has failed to reach a new carriage deal with pan-European sports broadcaster Eurosport.
Sky Italia pulled out of negotiations for a new deal due to concerns over the proposed fee, according to various reports.
From January 1, Eurosport will only be available on Italy’s second pay-television platform Mediaset Premium, which will not carry Eurosport’s high-definition channels.
Sky Italia has rights for the Wimbledon championships through to 2018, but the three other grand slams – the Australian Open, French Open and US Open – are only available in Italy on Eurosport.
In October, TV Sports Markets reported that both sides were far apart in negotiations to extend the carriage deal.
