Italian pay-television broadcaster Sky Italia has struck a partnership with telecommunications company Telecom Italia (TIM) under which a new IPTV service will be launched featuring its sports content.
Under the terms of the landmark new deal, Sky Italia is offering all of its content line-up over broadband for the first time, broadening its reach and enabling it to access the many Italian households who are unable to install a satellite dish.
The jointly-branded service will be available to all TIM broadband customers using Telecom Italia’s network and a dedicated Sky decoder. Customers will have access to all of Sky’s exclusive sport, movies and entertainment content.
Sky Italia’s sports portfolio includes football in the shape of Serie A, the European qualifiers for Uefa Euro 2016 and the 2018 Fifa World Cup and the Uefa Champions League, along with the Formula One motor racing championship.
In recent months, Sky Italia has signed rights deals for the EuroBasket 2015 national team basketball tournament, the Baku 2015 European Games multi-sport event and the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
