Slipper and Nuttall to lead FREE TV Sports Markets webinar on latest sports consumption trends

Oliver Slipper, the joint chief executive of digital media specialists Perform Group, and Stephen Nuttall, director of sport for YouTube in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, will be the lead panellists for a unique online seminar on the latest developments in the consumption of sports media by fans across the globe.

The webinar, presented by TV Sports Markets in association with Perform Group, draws on some of the key findings of the Global Sports Media Consumption Report 2012, a report published earlier this year by TV Sports Markets, the Perform Group and Kantar Sport.

The webinar, which will be introduced by Frank Dunne, Editor of TV Sports Markets, will be an invaluable source of opinion, information and insight for all decision-makers in the sports broadcasting industry. It will take place on Tuesday, September 18 at 3pm BST. It is free for all to join.

The key themes are: the continuing growth of the internet as a platform for sport; the continuing growth of mobile devices to consume sport; the rapid growth of social networking sites as sports platforms; and the complementary/symbiotic relationship between digital platforms and traditional linear TV viewing.

The second annual survey of global sports media consumption confirmed many of the trends highlighted in the first report in 2011 and brought into even sharper focus some of the changes in consumer habits that anybody working in the sports broadcasting industry needs to be attuned to. The rapid growth of social media stood out as a theme.

The report also shows how the continuing rise of the internet and social media has to be understood in the context of the dominance of traditional, linear television as a way of watching sport. Indeed, the Global Sports Media Consumption Report 2012 seems to suggest that the two media enjoy a symbiotic relationship. The complementary nature of the internet and linear television raises interesting questions about how the sports broadcasting landscape will be re-drawn in the coming years.
