Regional US sports network SportsNet New York (SNY) has acquired media rights for the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team in a four-year deal, from 2012-13 to 2015-16.
The agreement, which covers about 325 hours annually, including 17 games live per year plus other team-related programming, is worth $4.55 million (€3.5 million) in total, or $1.14 million per year.
SNY already has rights for the university’s American football and men’s basketball teams.
The deal brings an end to the Connecticut Public Television public-service broadcaster’s 18-year partnership with the university for women’s basketball coverage. Connecticut Public Television paid $900,000 per year in the most recent deal, which expired at the end of the 2011-12 season.
