Modern Times Group, the multi-territory commercial and pay-television broadcaster, has switched coverage of the 2016 European Handball Championship to TV3, its main commercial channel in Norway.
TV3 will broadcast every Norway national team game during the tournament, which is operated by the European Handball Federation and will take place in Poland from January 15-31.
“After several years without sport on TV3, we have chosen to show all Norwegian battles on TV3,” Morten Micalsen, the head of MTG TV in Norway, told the Kampanje media news website.
“Viasat4 will remain our main channel for sport, but this handball championship is a national event and we want to show Norway matches on our main channel, TV3.”
Viasat4 will show up to two other games per day during the tournament, Micalsen added.
In 2012, MTG acquired exclusive rights in Sweden, Norway and Denmark for the men’s and women’s European Handball Championships in 2016 and 2018. The rights were acquired from the Infront Sports & Media agency, the European Handball Federation’s media and marketing partner.
