German sports broadcaster Sport1 has extended its rights deal to the World Rally Championship in Germany, Austria and Switzerland through the 2016 season of the motorsport event.
The deal, agreed with the WRC’s commercial rights-holder WRC Promoter, comprises extensive, non-exclusive and platform-neutral television distribution rights for the territories in question.
Sport1 will cover each of the season’s 13 rally events on a free-to-air basis, with half-hour highlights shows on Fridays and Saturdays before a one-hour round-up to conclude the weekend on Sunday.
There will also be additional live broadcasts throughout the season on Sport1 and on pay-television channel Sport1+, while online coverage will be integrated through Sport1.de and the Sport1 app.
The agreement starts with the Rallye Monte Carlo from January 22-25, with Sport1 showing highlights from all four days and broadcasting live on the Sunday.
Germany’s WRC event, the ADAC Deutschland Rallye, has been handed a August 20-23 slot on the 2015 calendar.
