Sport1 picks up World RX rights

German sports broadcaster Sport1 has acquired rights for the World Rallycross Championship (World RX) motorsport series.

Sport1 will hold exclusive, platform-neutral rights for the remainder of the 2018 season, as well as the 2019 campaign, in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It agreed the deal with World RX promoter the IMG agency.

Sport1 will present all six remaining rounds from the 2018 season either live or in highlights form on free-to-air television. Races can also be streamed live on Sport1.de, with additional live coverage planned for the Sport1+ pay-television channel.

Paul Bellamy, World RX managing director for IMG, said: “For Sport1 to demonstrate such strong commitment to World RX is fantastic news for our fast-growing championship. The German market is very important to the series as well as those OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) currently involved, and this new two-year agreement offers fans in the country even more opportunities to experience our hugely exciting sport.”

The 2018 World RX season continues with the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres in Canada on August 4-5.
