Dutch pay-television broadcaster Sport1 will launch a dedicated motorsport channel on May 1.
Sport1 Racing will be the new home of Formula One, GP2 and GP3, the European Formula 3 championship, the DTM German touring cars series, Porsche Super Cup, Nascar, IndyCar and the World Rallycross Championship.
The new channel will be available on a free-to-air basis for certain subscribers to cable television operator Ziggo over the weekend of May 8-10. This weekend includes Formula One’s Spanish Grand Prix, with the arrival of teenager Max Verstappen (pictured) at Toro Rosso creating renewed interest for the sport in the Netherlands.
Sport1 vice-president Will Moerer said: “Because we have won more rights in the field of motorsport we can broadcast this sport on a separate channel. Through the formula of 24 hours a day, seven days a week, I think we can reach an even larger group of car enthusiasts.”
