Sportsman to sell international rights for German basketball

The Sportsman Media Group has agreed a deal to sell media rights outside Germany for the German Basketball Bundesliga in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons.

The deal includes internet rights, which Sportsman will exploit on its video streaming platform Laola1.tv.

Sportsman acquired the rights in a deal with Sport1, the German sports broadcaster. Sport1 also has the domestic rights for the league under a two-year deal agreed in August for 2012-13 and 2013-14.

Oliver Ciesla, Sportsman’s managing director said: “In recent years, Beko BBL has made huge strides in terms of quality and public profile. What we want to do is seize the momentum presented by the clear upward trend in Germany and generate the international attention that this attractive sports league deserves.

“Basketball fans outside Germany should also have the opportunity to watch Beko BBL games live on a regular basis.”
