Singapore pay-television operator Starhub acquired the rights to Singapore Lions’ matches in a four-year deal, from 2012 to 2015, from the Football Association of Singapore. The deal covers Lions’ matches in the Malaysia Super League, FA Cup Malaysia and Malaysia Cup. The deal also included principal sponsorship of the team.
Singapore Lions are a Singapore-based team that competes in Malaysian domestic football. This season will be the first time a Singapore based club have competed in Malaysian football since the Lions were victorious in both the league and the cup in 1994.
Starhub will show the matches on its pay-television, online and mobile platforms. It sold on some rights to free-to-air broadcaster Channel 5, owned by media company MediaCorp.
Channel 5 will broadcast live seven league matches (one per month), including the opening game on January 10 against Kelantan, and up to four Malaysia Cup matches – the opening match, two semi-finals and final, if Singapore Lions are involved. MediaCorp will also handle production of the Lions’ home matches.
