The Spanish pay-television market recorded steady growth in subscribers in the first quarter of 2019, according to the latest figures released by competition regulator the CNMC.
For the period between January and March, the pay-television sector added 58,604 more subscribers to reach a base of 6.84 million people.
Movistar recorded a 0.1-per-cent increase to 4.09 million subscribers; while Vodafone, which has pivoted away from football offerings, saw growth of 2.5 per cent to 1.32 million. Orange lost 1.6 per cent of its subscriber base to stand at 679,000.
First-quarter turnover from the pay-TV sector rose by 2.6 per cent to €563.6m ($612.8m), the bulk of which (€437.7m) was generated by Movistar, followed by Vodafone (€49.2m) and Orange (€43.4m).
