Indian subcontinent pay-television broadcaster Taj TV has acquired rights for all top-tier Premier events organised by the Women’s Tennis Association, the top professional tour in women’s tennis, in a four-year deal, from 2013 to 2016.
The rights cover India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Taj will exploit the rights on its Ten Sports channel, according to the Indian Television website.
The deal includes mobile and online rights.
Ten Sports will broadcast the semi-finals and finals from each of the WTA’s Premier events, including the year-ending WTA Championships.
“As we continue to expand our content for viewers in South Asia, we’re delighted to add outstanding WTA women’s tennis tournaments from around the world,” Ten Sports chief executive Atul Pande said.
