The Telecom Italia telecommunications company will show the 2014 Fifa World Cup through its TIMvision video-on-demand service after agreeing a sublicensing deal with the national team football tournament’s rights-holder in the country, pay-television broadcaster Sky Italia.
The agreement will allow TIM customers to watch all 64 matches of the World Cup on their smartphones or tablet devices, with 56 games provided live and eight offered on a delayed basis.
The deal is the latest development from a partnership signed in November between Telecom Italia and Sky, allowing the former to access sports content provided by the latter.
The partnership has already resulted in content deals concerning Serie A, Italian football’s top division; the 2014 winter Olympic Games and motor racing’s Formula One world championship.
