Spanish telecoms operator Telefónica has renewed its exclusive domestic broadcast rights agreement with Liga ACB, the top tier of Spanish basketball, for another three seasons.
The new deal runs from 2020-21 to 2022-23 and also includes renewed sponsorship rights to the ACB competitions.
Telefónica has retained rights to show all matches from the Liga Endesa, Copa del Rey and Endesa Super Cup on its Movistar Plus pay-television channels.
As part of the new agreement, the top match of the week will be shown by Vamos, Movistar Plus’ multi-sports channel, with all other matches to be broadcast by Movistar Deportes.
Domestic coverage of the Spanish basketball competitions switched from regional and national free-to-air coverage to Telefónica’s pay-television channels in 2015. As part of its initial deal from 2015-16 to 2017-18, Movistar Plus shared rights with public-service broadcaster TVE in the first year of the agreement before taking the contract on an exclusive basis from 2016-17 onwards.
Telefónica will remain a sponsor of the ACB, the Liga Endesa and Endesa Super Cup, as well as principal sponsor of the Copa del Rey.
Earlier this month, Liga ACB extended its exclusive official data deal with Genius Sports Group and also signed an agreement with Israel-based artificial intelligence technology company WSC Sports.
International broadcast rights deals have also been announced by the league in recent weeks in Argentina, Iceland and Venezuela.
