Asian pay-television broadcaster Ten Sports has extended a rights deal for live coverage of the US Open tennis tournament for four years, from 2013 to 2016.
The deal with the United States Tennis Association, which operates the tournament, covers exclusive rights in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, the Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Bangladesh.
The rights include mobile, internet and video-on-demand services.
“The conclusion of this agreement is of vital strategic importance as Ten Sports continues to deliver top-flight programming to our viewers,” Ten Sports chief executive Atul Pande said. “Rights-holders know we have the best distribution of any sports network in the south Asian market and they appreciate the value we bring to their product, not only through having the largest audience but also the way we present their product through scheduling, production and expert commentary.”
Ten Sports has broadcast the US Open since 2005.
