Italy’s Lega Serie A will enter into talks on Monday with three bidders for media-rights packages in relation to the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana club football competitions, according to the IlVelino.it website.
The rights cover three seasons, from 2015-16 to 2017-18, and public-service broadcaster Rai, commercial broadcaster Mediaset and pan-European broadcaster Eurosport are said to be in contention.
The deadline for bidding in the initial tender – which was drawn up in association with the Infront Sports & Media agency, the league’s exclusive adviser for the national and international media rights to all its properties – was March 6. However, Mediaset was said to be the only bidder at that stage.
Bidders interested in entering private negotiations for the rights in the Italian market had to express their interest by midday on March 13 and IlVelino said talks will commence with the three broadcasters on March 23.
Package I includes live coverage of the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana on all platforms. Package L comprises digital rights for the two competitions, including near-live highlights and interviews.
