Norwegian basic-tier and pay-television broadcaster TV2 and public-service broadcaster NRK have acquired rights for the Uefa Euro 2016 national team football tournament.
The agreement reached with CAA Eleven, Uefa’s exclusive marketing agency for the rights, ensures that at least one game per match day from Euro 2016 will be broadcast either on NRK 1 or TV2’s main channel. TV2 will also broadcast games on its TV2 Sumo channel.
TV2’s sports director, Bjorn Taalesen, said: “With this agreement we ensure that all the major football championships will be shown on TV2 and NRK in the coming years. We have already secured the rights for the football World Cup in 2014, 2018 and 2022. So although the media market here at home is constantly changing, in any case the international football highlights remain unchanged.”
Taalesen’s comments come after pan-Nordic basic-tier and pay-television broadcaster SBS Discovery Media last week acquired the exclusive rights in Denmark, Norway and Sweden to all European qualifying matches for Euro 2016 and the 2018 Fifa World Cup.
According to the Kampanje news website, TV2 and NRK were outbid for the Norwegian rights.
