Spanish public-service broadcaster TVE is set to launch a virtual reality platform ahead of its coverage of the 2016 summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The VR app is entitled Vive Rio: Heroínas and will launch on July 20 focusing on a number of female athletes.
The app will include five short VR documentaries telling the stories of synchronised swimmers Gemma Mengual and Ona Carbonell (pictured), canoeist Maialen Chourraut and equestrian star Beatriz Ferrer, along with Spain’s rhythmic gymnastics and rugby sevens teams.
Co-developed with inMediaStudio, TVE said the platform represents a commitment to immersive journalism for the first time in its history.
