TVE secures Spanish rights to Women’s Euro 2021

Spanish public broadcaster TVE has secured the rights to the Spanish women’s national team qualifying matches and the finals for the women’s European Championships in 2021.

TVE will exploit the rights on its linear channel and online through RTVE.es with the qualifying phase beginning on October 4 and running through to September 21, 2020.

Though financial details of the deal were not announced, fees for the Euro 2021 qualifying and finals cycle are expected to vastly exceed anything seen in the women’s game before.

TVE also held the rights to the women’s Euro 2017 and aired games on Teledeporte, the free-to-air digital channel. Mediapro’s free-to-air channel Gol TV held the rights in Spain to the recent 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup, which netted strong audiences across Europe’s main markets.

In France, the rights are expected to more than double in value after going through to a second round of bids.

UK public-service broadcaster the BBC landed exclusive rights to Euro 2021 in a deal announced in July and will provide extensive coverage of every match from across television, radio and online platforms.
