Spanish public-service broadcaster TVE has acquired rights for the upcoming final of the Copa del Rey domestic football tournament.
The match, between Barcelona and Sevilla, will be shown live at 9.30pm local time on Saturday, April 21.
The contest will be broadcast on the La 1 channel and will also be available on other TVE-operated digital platforms.
The rights were awarded to TVE after the CNMC, the competition regulator in Spain, ordered the RFEF, football’s governing body in Spain, to hold a fresh sales process. The watchdog said that the original format for the sales process did not meet standards for transparency and competition.
The RFEF invited bids in the new auction on April 4 for rights to the final in high-definition and on free-to-air television.
The previous three Copa del Rey finals were broadcast by Mediaset’s commercial channel, Telecinco, under an agreement with Mediapro, the competition’s rights-holder in Spain. This season’s final was set to be shown solely by Mediapro’s digital-terrestrial channel, Gol.
