YouTube to show Copa del Rey action worldwide

Spain's LaLiga has agreed a deal with the Mediapro agency to make coverage of the domestic Copa del Rey club tournament available on video-sharing website YouTube in 17 countries.

YouTube will show live coverage of the competition in high definition in the Belgium, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Netherlands, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine and the UK in Europe; Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea in Asia; and Argentina and Brazil in South America. Other countries could be added to the agreement.

The length of the deal was not disclosed, but the arrangement will run until at least the end of the 2015-16 season. Viewers will be able to access individual matches for €4.99 ($5.52) or a tournament-long subscription for €19.99, excluding the final.

The league and Mediapro said that the coverage, available through the youtube.com/laligatvcopa channel, would begin tomorrow (Wednesday) with the round-of-16 game between Villanovense and Barcelona.
