TVes agrees two-year deal to show Venezuelan Primera Division

“We have arrived at an agreement with the FVF to broadcast domestic football for two years. We are going to broadcast one game per week and we will make a big effort to ensure that all of the Primera División teams can be seen on our channel”, said William Castillo, president of TVes.

TVes started its coverage of the Primera División last weekend by showing two live games – Deportivo Petare v Atlético El Vigía on Saturday and Real Esppor v Zulia FC on Sunday – but will reduce coverage to one match per week from this weekend.

The FVF had already awarded the Primera Division rights to pay-television operator DirecTV and free-to-air broadcaster Meridiano Television in a three-year deal, covering the seasons 2010-11 to 2012-13 in August 2010. The decision to replace previous exclusive rights-holder, Sport Plus, and award the rights to DirecTV, Meridiano and TVes is an attempt by the federation to bring the league to the widest possible audience.
