The Union Cycliste Internationale has revealed that the 2014 edition of its Mountain Bike World Cup generated record viewing figures through broadcasts on various television and internet platforms.
A total of 53 channels in 19 countries around the world broadcast coverage of the tournament, generating a total audience of almost 37 million viewers for live coverage, highlights and news coverage. The event attracted a television audience of 16 million in the previous year.
A total of 1.5 million viewers tuned in to watch live coverage of the 2014 tournament on television.
Of the nine rounds in the 2014 World Cup, the final event in Méribel, France attracted the largest television audience.
Live coverage totalling 54 hours of the World Cup was streamed online. Media company Red Bull Media House, the exclusive production partner of the UCI, recorded a total of 1.2 million live views of official online streaming from the event through Red Bull TV and the Redbull.com/bike website.
A further 800,000 views were recorded through the video-on-demand service during the first four days after each race of the tournament.
