US confirms diplomatic boycott of Beijing 2022, China promises response

The US government will not send officials to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics next year in a 'diplomatic boycott' that it says is based on concerns over human rights issues in China.

US athletes will still take part in the Games. China had earlier said it would take "resolute countermeasures" in response to any form of boycott.
