Viasat picks up rights to England v Norway friendly

Modern Times Group-owned pay-television broadcaster Viasat has acquired the rights in Norway to the national football team’s friendly game against England on September 3.

The agreement means the game at Wembley Stadium will not be available free-to-air, with pay channel Viasat Fotball set to televise the match.

However, Viasat’s director of sports, Stian Aune Kleppo, has said the game will be streamed free of charge via online subscription service Viaplay.

“We want to provide this as an additional service to our loyal sports customers,” Aune Kleppo told Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten. “We will also open up this game so everyone can watch it online without paying anything.”

Aune Kleppo has maintained Viaplay will be able to cope with the potential levels of interest in the game, adding: “We have the digital capacity for this.”
