Vietnamese body moves to set limit for Premier League rights deal

The Vietnam Pay Television Association (VNPayTV) has said it will place a limit on the price of acquiring rights in the country to the English Premier League across the three seasons of the club football competition from 2016-17 to 2018-19.

The vietnamnet.vn website said VNPayTV has stated it will handle negotiations over the broadcast rights and has maintained it will only a pay a maximum of a 20-per-cent increase on the contract agreed for the current window, from 2013-14 to 2015-16.

Members of the association have committed not to enter into individual negotiations over the rights. VNPayTV has said it hopes the Premier League can exert some influence over the MP & Silva agency, its exclusive sales representative for media rights in Vietnam, when it comes to holding talks.

VNPayTV added that if no negotiations are held, it would stop pursuing the broadcast rights.
