World Rallycross Championship gears up for debut with global rights deals

The IMG Motorsport division of the IMG agency has sold the rights to the new World Rallycross Championship to over 30 different broadcasters as the motor racing series approaches its debut season.

Series promoter IMG Motorsport said the 2014 World RX season will be broadcast in more than 100 countries, with a combined household reach of over 816 million homes via the network of over 30 broadcasters.

All media partners will show extended highlights of each World RX event with at least 25 broadcasters showing the championship live or “as live” with full delay coverage of the two-hour television show.

Martin Anayi, managing director of the World Rallycross Championship for IMG Motorsport, said: “Even though it’s our first season as a full World Championship, we’ve already secured commitment from some of the world’s biggest pan-regional broadcasters such as Fox Sports Latin America and beIN Sports, as well as our existing deals.”

The 2014 World Rallycross Championship will be contested over 12 events. The opening round gets underway at Montalegre in Portugal on the weekend of May 3-4. The series will then take in events in the UK, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Turkey before concluding in San Luis, Argentina on November 28-29.
