World Rallycross Championship secures new rights deals

The World Rallycross Championship has agreed rights deals in a host of territories ahead of the start of the motor-racing series’ 2017 season tomorrow (Saturday).

The series has announced new deals with Middle Eastern pay-television operator OSN, Spanish free-to-air channel Gol, Turkish pay-television channel S Sport and international motorsports broadcaster Motorsport.tv, which will hold rights in the UK and Ireland.

Ford Performance, a division of US automotive manufacturer Ford, will show coverage in the US via its live distribution channel. Ford becomes the first original equipment manufacturer to serve as a live distribution partner for the series, with all 12 races to be streamed live via its official page on social media platform Facebook. WRC said a new US highlights deal is currently being negotiated and will be announced soon.

Free-to-air broadcasters SVT, NRK and L'Équipe will continue to show the series in Sweden, Norway and France, respectively.

In Germany, live coverage of the championship will be available via action sports and lifestyle channel Edgesport. German highlights will be available through commercial broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1. A new free-to-air highlights deal in Germany is currently being negotiated.

The series will also be available to stream in several territories via its official channel on video-sharing platform YouTube.

The 2017 season gets underway tomorrow with an event in Barcelona, Spain.
