Aereo fails in latest court bid

A federal court will not hear online streaming service Aereo’s argument that it should be allowed to operate in a similar way to a cable-television company.

The Second Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that Aereo will have to take its argument to the district court, according to the Washington Post newspaper.

Two months ago, the Supreme Court ruled that Aereo was violating copyright law by not paying broadcasters for transmitting their programming, including sports coverage. Aereo has voluntarily shut down as a streaming service, but wants to be treated like a cable-television company so it can apply for a compulsory licence to stream live television broadcasts.
