Brazilian state football league secures free-to-air exposure

Brazilian free-to-air broadcaster Esporte Interativo has acquired rights for the Campeonato Paraibano, the regional football league in the state of Paraíba, Brazil.

Esporte Interativo, which is owned by sports rights agency TopSports Ventures, will show the competition for the next 10 years, from 2014 to 2023.

The broadcaster will have rights to all games except those that are hosted by Treze, which was the only one of the eight clubs in the league to oppose the deal.

Under the agreement, the seven clubs that have agreed to the deal will be granted 50 per cent of television advertising revenues generated by Esporte Interativo around its coverage of the tournament.

“This broadcast deal will give football in Paraíba an opportunity,” William Simões, the president of leading club Campinense, told the Paraibaja news website. “It will open doors for clubs to seek new sponsors.”
