British Eurosport revs up speedway deal

British Eurosport, the UK arm of pan-regional broadcaster Eurosport, has acquired exclusive live rights in the UK and Ireland for the Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup motorcycling series.

The three-year deal with BSI Speedway, which operates the series and is a subsidiary of the IMG agency, will run from 2013 to 2015.

The series are sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, the international motorcycling federation.

British Eurosport’s deal will begin with live coverage of the New Zealand FIM Speedway Grand Prix on March 23, and the channel will cover all of the series’ rounds. The 2013 Speedway World Cup will run from July 13-20.

“We are really excited to add the FIM Speedway World Championships to our existing 45-round coverage of MotoGP, World and British Superbikes,” British Eurosport managing director David Kerr said. “Speedway will add a brand new discipline to our year-round motorbike coverage and strengthens our position as the home of bikes.”
