Carlton acquires Sri Lankan Premier League cricket rights

Sri Lankan terrestrial sports broadcaster the Carlton Sports Network has acquired rights for the Sri Lankan Premier League, the new Twenty20 cricket competition.

Carlton will broadcast all 24 matches from the inaugural season of the seven-team league, which takes place on August 10-30.

The league will feature teams with a mixture of foreign and local talent. Each team will include a maximum of six overseas players in their squads, and can field a maximum at any one time. Of the remaining seven Sri Lankan players on the field, one must be under the age of 21.

The league originally planned to stage its inaugural season last year, but was postponed following a contract dispute with a contingent of Indian players.
