Clube dos 13 agrees $665 million TV deal

Half of the top-division clubs have already begun negotiating directly with commercial broadcaster Globo, the incumbent rights-holder whose deal runs out at the end of this season. The clubs believe they can earn bigger revenues by doing deals directly with Globo. If the Rede TV deal is to survive, Clube dos 13 must convince these clubs to halt their individual negotiations and sign up to the deal.

Neither Globo nor Record, Brazil’s second-biggest commercial broadcaster, bid in the Clube dos 13 tender.

The Rede TV deal does not cover internet, mobile, pay-television, pay-per-view or international rights, which Clube dos 13 plans to sell separately over the coming weeks.
