The IMG Media agency renewed its rights deal with Danish football’s top football division, the Superliga, to distribute the international media rights for the league, for the next three seasons, from 2012-13 to 2014-15.
Under the new agreement, IMG will also distribute the international rights for the Danish Cup, which were not included in the previous deal.
IMG will market the rights to all 198 games from the Superliga (132 in high definition) per season, up from 99 games in the previous deal, plus 33 national cup games.
The deal covers rights across the following platforms: television, internet, mobile, DVD, in-flight and in-ship. IMG will also ensure coverage of the Danish domestic football in the Fifa Futbol Mundial and Trans World Sport magazine programmes, plus coverage on SNTV, the sports news service joint venture between IMG and the Associated Press news agency.
Claus Thomsen, chief executive of the Danish Superliga said: “We had a selection of offers to choose from, but since IMG was able to match all of them in terms of economy and exposure, the decision was quite easy. Moreover, we will continue to have IMG’s highly specialised distribution network at our disposal, which has already proven to be useful in terms of getting valuable exposure of the Danish Superliga internationally.”
