US television broadcasting company Sinclair Networks Group has secured a local rights deal with North American Major League Soccer club DC United.
Although the terms of the multi-year agreement were not disclosed, it was confirmed that the deal will come into effect from the 2016 season.
Sinclair will broadcast coverage of DC United matches that are not shown nationally in Washington DC via regional ABC network affiliate WJLA and local cable-television channel NewsChannel 8. Channel designations will be confirmed at a later date.
Sinclair’s new American Sports Network sports division will produce the coverage.
The new deal will end an existing local rights partnership between DC United and pay-television broadcaster Comcast SportsNet.
