German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom has acquired rights to national team events operated by the International Basketball Federation (Fiba).
The five-year agreement will run until 2021. Deutsche Telekom will showcase the coverage through its EntertainTV service, as well as online via Telekomsport.de and on mobile devices through the Telekom Sport app.
The deal will begin with this year’s EuroBasket tournament, which runs from August 31 to September 17 in Finland, Israel, Romania and Turkey. Deutsche Telekom will show all games played by Germany's national team.
The agreement also covers qualifiers for the 2019 World Cup in China. Germany’s qualifying campaign begins against Georgia on November 24.
Following the World Cup, Deutsche Telekom will show coverage of Germany’s home and away qualifiers for the 2021 EuroBasket Cup tournament, as well as the final round of the competition.
The deal was brokered by Fiba Media, the strategic partnership between Fiba and digital sports media specialist Perform Group.
